We have recently been asked to contribute to an article in The Lancashire Telegraph
March 11th, 2025 by FB4J AdminBetween 2013 and 2020, over 7,000 disabled individuals in East Lancashire successfully appealed against benefit stoppages, according to Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) data, as reported by Joe Harrigan in the Lancashire Telegraph. We have been contacted by Joe on several occasions and have been asked to comment on articles that he has written for various media outlets.
These appeals were related to Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) and Personal Independence Payment (PIP) decisions. The high success rate of these appeals has raised concerns among disability rights advocates about the initial assessment process.
Campaigners argue that the system is flawed and causes undue stress for claimants. In response, the DWP has stated that it continually reviews and improves its decision-making processes to ensure fairness and accuracy.
When asked about this, Fightback’s founder, Michelle, stated that ‘The whole system is broken in my opinion, we have a team of 11 working hard to help people overturn these decisions and have a very high success rate of doing so, we just cannot keep up and our resources are stretched as we are unfunded by grants currently’.
We are always happy to comment on articles such as this as it is perfectly aligned with our mission to help those who struggle with the complex world of welfare benefits and fight for the right decisions. If you have a spare moment, please read over the article by clicking the link above.
