Fightback Featured in The Guardian’s Report About Appeals

In a 2016 article, The Guardian reported on a pilot scheme allowing disabled individuals to appeal benefit decisions online, aiming to simplify the process and reduce waiting times. The initiative was introduced by the UK government to make the appeals system more accessible and efficient for those challenging decisions related to disability benefits.

The Guardian highlighted the efforts of Fightback4Justice as non-profit organisation dedicated to assisting individuals in navigating the complexities of welfare benefits. Our team at Fightback has been instrumental in supporting claimants through the appeals process, offering guidance and representation to ensure that their cases are heard and fairly assessed. In the article, Michelle commented that a change from an in-person format to a paper based or online format may actually be detrimental to many – ‘We get 90% success when the appeal’s in person. On paper, even with us involved, it’s barely 50% success… If the claimant is there to put it across in person, no matter how tough it is for them, that’s so much better’.

Our involvement in this initiative underscores our commitment to advocating for the rights of disabled individuals and ensuring they receive the support they are entitled to. Being recognised by The Guardian as a trusted voice within the welfare benefits sector is a testament to our dedication and the impact of our work. We remain steadfast in our mission to empower and support those facing challenges within the benefits system, striving for a more just and accessible process for all.
