The Bury Times recently reported that approximately 240 terminally ill patients in Bury were adversely affected by a benefits rule requiring them to have a prognosis of six months or less to qualify for certain benefits. This rule was criticised as “cruel and arbitrary” by the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which advocated for its removal to ensure all terminally ill patients receive necessary financial support. The Department for Work and Pensions stated it was reviewing the policy to better support those nearing the end of their lives.
